Following an enlistment in the U.S. Air Force as an Airborne Chinese Cryptologic Linguist following the attacks on September 11, 2001, Dr. Abby Kinch worked for six years in the private sector using the language and analysis skills the Air Force provided until ultimately deciding to complete her undergraduate degree in Chinese and Linguistics.

In 2013, Dr. Kinch completed her first master’s degree and was named a Presidential Management Fellow. She then developed the U.S. Intelligence Studies Certificate at Florida State University within the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, writing the two core courses and teaching an impressive line-up of analysis coursework, including qualitative, quantitative, and network analyses techniques.

She currently teaches in the School of Information (“iSchool”) at the University of South Florida. She is also the Vice President of Research at Student Veterans of America, where she manages the big questions around student veterans, and she also sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Veterans Studies through Virginia Tech Publishing.
