Frank Peters is a retired Staten Island ferry captain. On the morning of 9/11 he was watching the twin towers as he captained the Staten Island Ferry across the water and saw the first tower explode. Later that day, he helped evacuate people from Manhattan, and ferried first responders back and forth.
Peters has been a Legion member since 1990. He served as Post Commander at Gold Star Post 1356 in Staten Island, N.Y. in 1998 and was New York Department Commander in 2014-15.
