Lanny Bassham was born on January 2, 1947, in a small Texas town. He wasn’t the best athlete in school growing up but had Olympic size dreams. His dream and his dedication to training lead him to the Olympic Games. He could shoot winning scores and knew that the Gold Medal was in his reach.
After graduating from The University of Texas at Arlington, Lanny accepted a regular Army commission in the Army Medical Service Corps.
He was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he consistently showed himself to be one of the top rifle shooters in the nation and the
world. Bassham also served as a company commander and an instructor at the Academy of Health Sciences in Ft. Sam Houston and the Infantry School in Fort Benning.
In 1972, at the Munich Germany Olympic Games, Lanny Bassham failed in his attempt to win the Gold Medal in International Rifle Shooting. What he discovered was truly remarkable. Bassham created a system of mental control he calls Mental Management®.
