Montel Williams

Montel Williams began his professional career in the United States Marine Corps whereupon he achieved the rank of corporal in less than 2 ½ years.

He was then the first African American Marine selected to the Naval Academy Prep School to go on to graduate from the Unites States Naval Academy and then be commissioned as a Naval Officer.

Williams earned a degree in general engineering and a minor in international security affairs from the Naval Academy and a degree in Russian from the Defense Language Institute. I

In 1989 Williams was deep selected to LCDR, came off active duty and went on to complete his 22 years of military service in the reserves.

He was the recipient of three Meritorious Service Medals, one Meritorious Award, two Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals and various other military awards and citations.

The Emmy-winning TV personality, inspirational speaker, author, entrepreneur and passionate health & wellness advocate served as master of ceremonies when The American Legion's 96th National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., in 2014.
