Stacy served in the Air Force as a combat photojournalist, where she earned numerous medals and commendations during her deployments. She is one of only three women to win National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) Military Photographer of the Year competition and is the first woman to earn it twice.

Today, Stacy continues to work worldwide as an independent photographer, author, educator and founder of the Veterans Portrait Project.

She talks with us about her history as well as her current project, the PBS series "After Action," which reveals the experiences of veterans before, during and after their service.

CLF is a non-profit organization that is leading the fight against concussions and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE, a degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans, and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma.

We’ll also talk with retired U.S. Navy Commander Daryl Adamson about his experience as a suicide loss survivor and the legacy of his son, Cameron, a Marine, who died by suicide in 2021 at age 22. The Adamson family donated Cameron's brain for study of CTE, and are advocates for the Concussion Legacy Foundation Project Enlist.

Author and activist Erin Miller shares the story of her grandmother, Elaine Danforth Harmon, who served with the Women Airforce Service Pilots - or WASPs - during WWII.

When her grandmother's final wish to be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery was denied by the U.S. Army in 2015, Erin began a grassroots, social media and lobbying campaign to fight the decision and have a law passed to recognize the service of the WASP for inurnment eligibility at Arlington National Cemetery.

Working a corporate job in Indianapolis on Sept. 11, 2001, Purdue graduate Josh Bleill was so moved by the events of that day that he soon found himself, at the age of 27, following in his father's yellow bootsteps at Marine Corps bootcamp.

During a deployment to Fallujah, Iraq in 2006, a bomb exploded under the vehicle Josh was riding in. He woke up five days later to the realization that he had lost two friends and both of his legs in the blast.

Josh's journey through recovery led him to a new role as a motivational speaker, trying to help veterans and civilians alike move forward with positivity by taking just one step at a time.

Jennifer shares about how that moment has propelled her through her path in life, leading to a career as a veteran entrpreneur, and an advocate for veterans in need.

American Legion member David Whelan shares memories of his wife's cousin, Richard Guadagno.

Richard was a vibrant young man, who loved the outdoors, and on Sept. 11, 2001, was on his way home to California, after a weekend spent celebrating the 100th birthday of his grandmother in New Jersey. While the family will never know exactly what happened on United Airlines Flight 93 that day, they have no doubt Richard was working with other passengers to take action.

As the 20th Anniversary approaches, in honor of Richard Guadagno, Whelan and his entire family continue to work with the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial to ensure that America never forgets the nearly 3000 people who died that day.

In this episode, we share the 9/11 story of Linda Beecher, American Legion Auxiliary Babylon Unit 94 member, who, on Sept. 11, 2001, was an EMT for FDNY.

On the morning of the attack, Linda and two of her children, a son who was a fellow EMT and a daughter, who was a paramedic, rushed to the WTC site to see how they could help. That morning, Linda served as a liaison between chiefs in the field and dispatchers. On Sept. 14 she began working in the morgue and continued doing so until May of 2002.

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, newly-elected American Legion National Commander Richard Santos was on Capitol Hill, poised to brief Congress on The American Legion’s priorities for the coming legislative year. Then the first plane hit World Trade Center in New York, and the whole world changed.
Richard Santos was the national commander of The American Legion on September 11th, 2001.

Shortly after the attacks, he penned a message that still resonates two decades later.

“America continues to heal and it is our responsibility as veterans to tend to the wounds,” he wrote. “Some will panic about the future; we must reassure them. Some will weep over a lost family member or friend; we must hold their hands. Some will be angry; we must temper their rage.”

In this first episode of a special series of Tango Alpha Lima bonus episodes, our hosts visit with American Legion Past National Commander Richard Santos, who shares his memories of that moment and the months that followed as he represented the nation’s largest veterans service organization during a time of national crisis.

Ashley shares the story of Retired Adm. Cecil Haney, who was one of the first Black four-star admirals in Navy history, serving as the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and the U.S. Strategic Command, where he oversaw nuclear weapons before retiring in 2017.

Jeff shares a historical story of German POWs at a camp in Texas who were shocked by the shoddy treatment of the Black Americans who were their guards and who they worked alongside at local farms.

CV shares the Medal of Honor story of Army Sgt. William H. Carney, who posthumously recieved the honor in 1900 for his actions during the charge of Fort Wagner in Charleston, S.C. during the Civil War.

Their oganization designed and distributes The Bowery Pack, a backpack engineered specifically to meet the needs of homeless Veterans. That initial mission has led them to additional homeless outreach initiatives.

Episode 10: Tango Alpha Lima: John Ring and the Buddy Watch Walkers

Jeff and Ashley talk with John Ring and others fresh off the trail of the Buddy Watch Walk, a Pier-to-Pier trek across the southern U.S. to raise awareness of veteran issues such as mental health, PTSD, homelessness, unemployment, MST, TBI, addiction, and suicide.

They walkers are joined by representatives from The Alabama American Legion, who supported John during his stop in Montgomery, as well as drummed up additional assistance from Legion members across the South who helped support John for the remainder of his journey.

John began his journey solo at the pier in Tybee Island, Ga. As he walked he was joined by Jimmy Mathews in Pearl, Miss. Jimmy intended to accompany John across his home state of Mississippi, but ended up staying by his side for the remainder of the journey. Jason Hanner joined the duo in Texas, and Eli Hawkins stepped up to complete the crew in Tucson, Ariz.

The team finished the final leg of their walk from Hollywood Post 43 to the Santa Monica Pier on June 14, 2020, accompanied by a parade of American Legion Riders and other American Legion Family members by their side.

Special Guests: Greg Akers, James Gillespie, Jason Hanner, Jimmy Mathews, and John Ring.

AsCOVID-19 continues to spread across the U.S., the Corps has taken a number of precautions to slow the spread to include closing and restricting a number of amenities from gyms, restaurants, movie theaters and other entertainment services. But still rolling strong across a number of major Marine Corps bases from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and Quantico, Virginia, to Marine Corps Base Hawaii, are installation barbershops

So, Space Force has their own meteorologists — Weather experts at Florida’s Space Coast will feel the pinch of an increasingly crowded launch schedule as higher demand requires more forecasting services. Employees of the Space Force’s 45th Weather Squadron include civilian launch weather officers who are tasked to work with a particular launch provider like United Launch Alliance or SpaceX, Active-duty personnel who fill in as needed on launch days, and enlisted forecasters who work around the clock.
